Acrylic on canvas | 70 cm x 100 cm | 2022

I decided to organise my 2022 sketches. I also checked my unfinished drawings to get more ideas. The sketchbook was so thick that it took me a long time to glance through it.

I had a new idea, so I decided to act on it. I usually start painting from an invented plot (the central figure in my painting), but this time I decided to “take an adventure” on the canvas. I chose a 70 cm x 100 cm canvas – one of my favourite sizes for this painting. I began painting a sizeable asymmetric spot of yellow hue. In my mind, I envisaged a black hollow linear circle that a luminescent pink outline should accompany. As I looked at the site, I continued painting the elements in my imagination. I stopped and took a while to create the whole painting in my mind first. I didn’t want to waste time and paint on a vague idea. Another reason was that I knew I didn’t want to repaint the shades later. I suddenly realised that no matter how much I try to abstract the scenes I have created, the image of a woman is necessary. I took the pencil, left the canvas on the easel, and returned to my desk to draw a new sketch.

Regarding the shades, the dark turtle neck sweater she wears represents the night’s end. On the other hand, the light background represents the dawn of the morning – when the sun appeared. Initially, I had conflicting thoughts about the girl’s size from the spot. However, I painted a portrait sketch of a lady with a bent head, wearing long earrings. I used a few lines to emphasise the eyes, lips, and neck. At this time, I had already imagined what this sketch would look like. Gradually, the whole concept of this painting emerged. The story is about a lady who went to a fun party with her new acquaintances. She didn’t want the party to end. Since she was enjoying everything, so she lost track of time. I deliberately bent her neck in a slightly weightless state in the picture because I wanted to demonstrate how she felt. That posture was because she had drunk a lot of wine. Party animals will understand and recognise the mornings they have experienced, when the sun is rising, the sky is already bright, and you are still wearing the same clothes and accessories you wore yesterday.
