Neris river bank

mixed media, 284 × 85 × 12 cm, 2026

I made the installation “Neris river bank” (284 × 85 × 12 cm, 2026) at the initiative of Vilniaus vystymo kompanija. In it I follow the bend of the Neris and its existing bridges, and I show the neighbourhoods along the river with coloured pencils. The idea is to join old and new and show how the Neris riverbank has changed and become more beautiful.

The base is made of old windows. They suggest that the riverbank is being renewed: a new landscape is being made out of the old one. In many of my works I show water with glass, and this time its colour comes from the texture of smashed computer screens. The tint of the screens looks very much like the water of the Neris, and the cracks look like small waves.

I match the collected used pencils by shade, so in the colours you can make out the spaces of the Old Town and the new greenery. LED lighting strengthens the mood of the piece. Throughout the work I used materials that had already been used: old windows, pencils and computer screens.
