Vilnius Town Hall
I made the installation “Vilnius Town Hall” (122 × 77 × 10 cm, 2026) for Vilniaus vystymo kompanija, whose project is the restoration of Vilnius Town Hall. The Town Hall is a very important building for the city, and especially for the capital, so I render it in solid materials.
The base of the installation is an old window. Painted plywood follows the Town Hall facade, and I show the entrances with their windows using broken computer screens, which strengthen the effect. I create a sense of depth with LED lighting. What makes the Town Hall recognisable is not only the architecture of its facade but also the coat of arms: I made it from used red coloured pencils, and the figure of Saint Christopher from pencil shavings.
I wanted to join old and new. The Town Hall has stood on this spot since 1432, and its history is inseparable from Vilnius self-government and from the city’s political, cultural and social life. I tried to reflect these many different activities in the installation. Today the work of the Town Hall administration is unthinkable without computers, so I used screens.
