Sun Bathing
Description
The idea for Sun Bathing came in 2015, on holiday in Thailand: lying on the beach and browsing Pinterest, a photo of Madonna caught my eye. I always have paper and a pencil at hand, so I drew my own interpretation right away. The sketch stayed in my folder for a couple of years – I had almost forgotten it until I found it in a pile of work and decided to paint it on a 70 × 100 cm canvas.
The sun and the sea gave the colours too: a face lit by the rays looks light on a hot, bright day, the scattered rays on the neck and body are darker, and strong light makes clear, hard shadows. I enjoy painting things not everyone notices; it keeps a painting interesting every time you look. Acrylic on canvas, 2018. The original has found its home; this print is reproduced from it.
