Portrait of Andrius

Andrius’s portrait was commissioned by his mother-in-law. My first reaction was: “You must have a very good son-in-law if you want to give him such a big gift.” She replied: “He is very good to my daughter.” It is exactly this kindness that I tried to convey in the portrait. While painting, I could feel how kind Andrius’s eyes are. I chose a soft palette and used the brushstrokes to follow the planes of his face quite precisely. The circle on the cheek, typical of my painting, also holds a person’s face if you look closely. Andrius himself, celebrating a milestone birthday, was pleasantly surprised and is happy with his portrait. For me, that is a double reward for the work.
